Goals
-
Learn about the ways that the arts can bring people together, specifically around the theme of social justice
-
Learn tangible strategies used to involve the community impacted in the work I have been involved in community art projects in the past, but they have never revolved around the theme of social justice
Personal Goals

Personal Skills & Knowledge to Gain
in relation to social work competencies
-
To understand social work on an international scale, because there are diverse and important human experiences that offer deep insight into how social justice can be effectively achieved around the world
-
Learning further about the tactics used by JtoJ to incorporate the participation of community members in their work would relate directly as a type of strategy designed to eliminate oppressive structural barriers
-
Learn about how they have involved research in their practice, and I can use the practice I am in learning in the MSW program in this research for my project
Competency #2
"understand how diversity and difference characterize and shape the human experience and are critical to the formation of identity"
Competency #3
"advancing human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice... understand strategies designed to eliminate oppressive structural barriers"
Competency #4
"social workers understand that evidence that informs practice derives from multi-disciplinary sources and multiples ways of knowing"
How the Project Addresses
Social Justice Issues
-
Those who are impacted by a social issue are working directly on the movements or with the organizations who are fighting against those social issues
-
Offers important feedback for JtoJ from their community partners, but it will help me, as a social worker, to further understand how art can be used in social justice movements, along with strategies to use to include community members in the process
-
Offers the opportunity for me to think about how social work and social justice are done across countries or in a global context
-
The strategies that I evaluate will offer insight into how history can be used to engage present-day individuals and communities into social justice movements
